Lovely.
Reminiscing about Janet Jackson, Paula Abdul, perms and abundant synthetic material clothing this morning in the office.
I have a soft place in my heart for kitsch. I think a gnome should be my next yard art purchase, yes?
I wandered over to the lobby of the Wisconsin Historical Society at lunch to take a look at this marvelous contraption. It was created by John Muir, the naturalist who co-founded the Sierra Club, when he was a student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison around 1862. Apparently this desk would wake John Muir from slumber by sliding him out of bed onto the floor and lighting a lamp at the same time. There’s a compartment that would hold his books and automatically extract and retract them on a pre-set schedule. Mechanical genius! If only I could make something similar to get me to the bus on time.
